LucasArts finally coming to GOG *CONFIRMED*

Featured Replies

Not official yet, but all the evidence points to the fact that Disney is finally getting LA games going on GOG from the scrapped deal that the original LA was making with GOG before the buyout. Some more info and evidence in this post at the scummvm boards.

EDIT: Confirmed! More info: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/tomorrows_lucasart_releases_confimed_so_far/page1

So far Monkey Island Special Edition, Knights of the Old Republic, Tie Fighter Special Edition, X-Wing Special Edition, Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis, and Sam & Max Hit The Road are confirmed. I'm not sure if the Tie Fighter and X-Wing special editions are just the CD Collector's Editions (of which I have both) or if they've been enhanced or updated in some way. I tend to the the former, but we'll find out tomorrow!

They were two of the very best non-adventure LucasArts games ever made.

It also reached Joystiq.

Definitely grabbing Sam & Max. I can only hope Day of the Tentacle is also released there some day. I wouldn't mind getting Dark Forces either.

It's a shame that LucasArts never did a Star Wars adventure game... seeing as they did Indiana Jones

adventure games you would have thought they might have...

Would have been cool to travel the galaxy as Luke Skywalker picking up objects, talking to aliens, etc.

According to Ron Gilbert, he really wanted to do a Star Wars game but they weren't allowed to because another company had the rights to Star Wars video games when they first started LucasFilm Games. He said that was a good thing because it forced them to be more creative and come up with their own great ideas....of which they certainly did. After whatever licensing agreement was made with that other company expired and LA was allowed to make Star Wars games, they never did make an adventure, though. I agree, it would have been cool. Dark Forces as an adventure would have been mega cool.

I always did wonder it a bit why they didn't do SW adventure games, but the rights being with someone else would explain it. And by the time they got the game rights back doing an adventure wasn't the only viable option.

Oh yeah, those. I remember playing the Indiana Jones one. That was reasonably fun. They really should port those for tablets, they'd fit well as something little to play on the go.

Yet I'm disappointed as they didn't enhance the character models more. There's a fan made mod that has at least some of the models done in much higher quality and IMO they do work very well.

Ha, I had no idea such a mod existed. Personally, I'm fine with the way the models looked in the original. Part of the charm and all that...

To be honest, I never played the game past Chapter 2, even though I'd consider it a triumph in terms of visual design and storytelling. The environments had a very unique, art deco inspired look to them, something that I think no other video game did until Bioshock came out. (To a much, much, MUCH lesser extent, Thief 2 also had some art deco design going on)

Is anybody else really excited about the Grim Fandango remaster?

God, it just looks so good...

Seeing this has got me a lot more onboard with the remaster now...

Before I was kinda like, "eh, they just messed with the lighting," and I felt it was almost a bit of

a gimmick, like, "what can we change that won't be that hard to update..."

But now I understand it more, in terms of the lighting being a really integral part of the look and feel of the

game and how it's lit in a film noir style... so the focus on that actually makes a lot of sense to me now.

I think the biggest thing for me though is going to be the music, it looks like they really went to town on

that side of things and I might get it just for the music alone...

In case any of you guys missed it: Moar LucasArts on GeeOhGee!

Bought Dark Forces. Haven't played that one since the late 90s. Got severe motion sickness after the first level and had to quit. Awesome release nonetheless! And apparently the prices for the Monkey Island remake and the Knights Of The Old Republic games dropped a little (from $12 to $9.99).

They'll be releasing more LA later this week (Thursday, to be exact)! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Cheddar Night! They already pretty much confirmed Rebellion being among those releases.
