A one-room AGI/AGS adventure to promote SpaceVenture?

Recommended Posts

OK, so my "game" is done.

Can be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire...d6r5yk2dlzrncqf

It's really a very basic thing and I'm not very comfortable writing in English, but hey... I had fun with it and figuring out AGS the past couple of days. :)

Nice! :D

Loved the "twist" at the end, if you can call it that :)

I must admit I was impatient enough to use the walkthrough to figure out the password, but it was a pretty good idea for the puzzle.

PS. I spotted a typo in the hints at the beginning: "It some cases..."

I played your game today, filipst. I thought the English was very good, and the ending (plus Roger's reaction to it) was hilarious! Great job!

Also, good work on the custom GUI. It's great when a game designer refuses to stick with AGS's default GUI, even if the game is really short.

EDIT: "plug Roger's reaction"? I really shouldn't post messages here so late at night...

Cool! Well, I think the humor is more in trying stuff that doesn't work... like the cartridge on the keyboard or trying the numbers on the note as the password and stuff like that. Of course, I'm not sure how funny would other people find that.

Well, if anyone wants to spread it around, be my guest!

Playing it again I agree, the password stuff was funny. "Hey, try this! No? Oh well, guess you're just a failure after all." lol

It was also good work in general which is why I included it in "two awesome fan games". There was a post by S.D. in the SpaceVenture comments section that summed it up nicely:

...seeing the community we have here. We have hilarious, talented artists, musicians, writers, programmers, and people with some of the biggest hearts I've ever met (Riggo, Nelson, Speedster1, Jared, Jason Ferron... I'm looking at you guys). And the team that put together what seems like the best quality ground-up fan game ever made . . . . fan art? . . . . promo game? . . . . *second* one-room promo game?...

That's right SpaceQuest / SpaceVenture fans; you rock!

nockgeneer; I've sent you a PM... please take a peek :)

For those confused about what just happened, something I posted out of context included nice things as well, and he paid me a high complement, above. However, it included some not-so-nice things that I wrote that could have been interpreted to disparage another fan community. In fact, it would have been hard not to interpret it that way. My comment was borne of frustration, sleep deprivation, and almost certainly some level of intoxication... at least I'm in good company in that regard (... Frede ;) !).

At any rate, and to deflect attention from myself, this thread has gone off topic... the discussion was regarding mini adventure games to promote SpaceVenture.

Several of us have played Filip's game, and it's a great little promotional adventure game. I wonder if it might get some mention in an article (perhaps under PledgeQuest in that article) so it could have some wider exposure. I did pack it up for Linux & OS X, though I need to refresh them with his last update.

Also, there are stretch goals for SpaceVenture, and I'm wondering if anyone else has any appetite for building another small game, perhaps to encourage new backers? Depending on how long Mark & Scott choose to leave PayPal open, we would have the time to deepen this experience, somewhat.

With the OSX port I did it the day it was posted so I am sure it was the lastest as of the 17th :-)

Well, that depends. ;) Did you build the OSX port from the version posted by Akril earlier in this thread, or the version posted on the front page here at SQN?

Akril's was the updated version (1.1). Prior to the release of your OSX port, the version on the front page (1.0) still had the smell/taste bug.

If you used the older version originally and want to update it, Version 1.1 is available for download here. I believe the Linux version is also currently based on the older version. Anyway, if someone decides to make the updates to either port, just let me know and I'll change the links on the front page to reflect the changes.

Sorry for the confusion -- and thanks for all your hard work!

Jess

Jess, pcj; I repacked up version 1.1 (sorry for slacking).

If you'd like, please mirror it from http://www.40hex.com/projects/pledgequest1.1_linux_x86.zip and update the mirrored link on the article (as before, please do not post this URL beyond this thread as my site's bandwidth is on a prepaid plan).

Also, in regards to Filip's game (which was at http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?gf1gxt83j2ay6wj for his latest Windows version), I've repacked it for Linux with the final version at http://www.40hex.com/projects/themysteriouscartridge1.3_linux_x86.zip and here is my Mac OS X packaging from the first version http://www.40hex.com/projects/TheMysteriousCartridge.app.zip which is out of date (I don't have access to the Mac laptop from work that I originally did this on). Could his promo game get some mention? I fear that it has next to zero exposure, even though several of us on this thread have played it and enjoyed it.

It's fantastic to have Lunchbox continue doing Mac packaging for the foreseeable future. Lunchbox, would you try out Filip's game (above) and pack it up if you like it? All I did here was copy your SQ:VSB wineskin configurations. My first whack at OS X packaging for PledgeQuest was less than stellar (as you can see earlier in this thread)...

Sure I will try to get that done by the end of the day :-)

  • 1 month later...

Here's an idea either update the game or make part II for the Stretch campaign.

Thanks for the kind words! It's a little too early to go into much detail, but there's more Pledge Quest in the works. We're really upping the stakes for Bea this time around...

It's coming along nicely. The sequel will be a little longer than the first game (roughly comparable to the SQ6 demo), and since we're not in an insane time crunch for this one, we have more time to work on animation, click events, a 3D flight simulator, and all that good stuff.

We'll definitely provide more details as it edges toward completion.
