Folks; my wife & I have been thinking about this for about three weeks now, but backer Maya commented, in the aftermath of funding, that we ought to put together a celebratory fan art collage. I agree, at least to celebrate the difficult journey that project had in getting funded, if for no other reason (like a tribute or something).

I have no idea how or in what way it will come together, but I made this topic to spark discussion. This will be fun, I think!

So... SpaceVenture Kickstarter community... what do you think?

Should we do something like this?

What form should it take? Physical, digital, etc? Video? Something else?

    The Spaceventure got underway
    And stalled around 218K
    But you increased pledging power
While I was in the shower
    And funded this bastard TODAY!

There are also haiku and my terrible limerick (which had one malformed non-rhyming stanza). If anyone else has, knows-of/remembers, or wants to author some more, that would be awesome, too. These could be read aloud to be dubbed over imagery by a KS backer with a golden voice (as yet to be found)... I (or Mrs. S.D.) could probably do it reasonably well. If we have trained voice actors amongst our KS backers, that would be much better.

    Games:
PledgeQuest & The Mysterious Cartridge: http://www.spaceques...e-spaceventure/ Music: So, I'm not sure here... there is lots of music from before the Kickstarter associated with the fan games. However, as far as fan music authored for the KS project, I only know of the as-yet-forthcoming "Ballad to 218K" that Ohverture is composing right now.

As an observer watching the recorded stream, i have to admit i was a little worried that when scott showed up it would turn into fanboy gushing and he would end up regretting it, but much to my satisfaction you guys were all super chill and scott really seemed to genuinely enjoy it. Seemed like he had just as much fun as you guys, if not more, and he seemed really touched by it all. and that was really cool to see. Really awesome stuff. Cool night in space quest history

edit - i could see something like this going viral and when people see how fuckin' cool scott is it could really help the pledges

yeah, that's really the thing here. There is always going to be some idiot "misinterpreting" things. I really think the key is not to get fired up about, and not start a biggering match with the individual.

For example the youtube comments. One guy makes a stupid comment. And suddenly 12 people is down on his throat and the whole comment section is about whether or not the video is offensive. It would be much more helpful to ignore him, or at least only dignify him with one or two responses. Chances are he is trolling anyway.

Instead try to steer the conversation away from negativity.

There is a chat function on this board. It connects into an IRC server, but it works directly in the browser, and probably much more convenient for most people than Twitch. We have 10 or so people in there at the moment.

The idea would be to have the Minecraft link directly to that server I would guess.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I really loved this site ever since I first visited it (the music-files have a permanent residence on my mp3-player). Now that this is the Two Guys' official forum, my only regret is that I didn't register sooner.

Allow me to elaborate just once more, then I'll leave it at that. Wouldn't want to wear out my welcome after just two posts...

Though I never played "Monolith Burger Boy", the proto-prototype, SirPrimalform's comment on Martin Kool's blog immediately caught my attention:

Rahul tweeted the following on May 24th: "Dave Hyatt just pledged $5k if the game is made in HTML5". That and Martin Kool's lengthy comment (which can be read in full here) suggests that it is indeed - at least to some extend - a Chrome/html5 love affair. I'm not one who enjoys sowing the seeds of discord, but Q42 definitely seem to have their own agenda with this project. One that might not necessarily work in the best interest of the SpaceVenture, the fans or even the Two Guys. Which is basically why I lost my shit on the KS-comments.

Never mind, I'll just blissfully ignore future prototypes to avoid further frustration. The new webcomics make up for it.

    Hi Fronzel,

I saw your comments on the KS and I'm glad you have decided to join our community.

I think everybody understands your frustration, but at the same it's also momentously difficult to please everybody. If they had made a binary instead, people would have complained it didn't work on their platform, if they had spend more time making sure it worked across multiple browsers they would have had to include less new features which would also have upset people. I have no insights into what the results of the survey was, but I'm guessing non-chrome prototypes wasn't as highly voted for as some of the other things.

Regardless, I really appreciate that you are able to see beyond the proto-type and appreciate what the Two Guys are trying to do.

    Hello All!

Long time reader, first time posting. I'm usually writing as andromedan_denizen in the chats. I am thrilled that the Guys from Andromeda are back and ready to give us a new sci-fi adventure game. Hopefully we can make our 500k goal, although at this date it is looking a tad bleak. While we had a good day yesterday we'll need to average $16,660.75 / day to reach our goal. So I figure we need to do as much as possible (as I'm sure everyone is aware) to promote the project, and motivate the $15 tiers up.

To help the effort I compiled this promo video. Watch it here:

Let me know what you guys think of it, and if you like it, let's try and get it out there to help promote the project. I just felt the project could use more video, this is mostly footage from SQ, but I think it helps illustrate some of the memorable scenes from a beloved series. I modeled and rendered the Aluminum Mallard for the fly by shots, although I had to cut it short a bit because I was quite busy with work this week, and just to get it out the door before too much time has passed. I'm hoping to add more artwork from the campaign as it comes through, and maybe even more Mallard shots in there. Also was thinking it might be an interesting viral to do a craigslist ad for the Mallard, and render a still of it in front of a house or something, and make it up like a real for sale ad.

Any more suggestions are welcome, cheers!

    Mike

Being one of those two, allow me to explain: Scott said in the audio clip that they learned the hard way that people are opinionated about Chrome. On the survey, you could vote for non-Chrome prototypes.

All that - plus the considerable delay of the 2nd prototype - led me to believe that the prototype 2 just might be redesigned to work on other browsers. But it wasn't. Exactly what did they learn the hard way? Jackshit, it seems.

This pissed me off enough to make ME want to cancel my $250 pledge ($265 international, actually). Now, since I'm a major SQ fan, I didn't cancel my pledge. $265 is more than a third of my monthly income, mind you. People not as mindlessly loyal as I might have lowered/canceled their pledge (and most likely did, considering the $6000 loss). And I still stand firmly behind my statements that making the prototypes Chrome-exclusive will cost them pledges and all the incessant pointing out of the prototypes being "interactive concept art" won't do able anything about that.

Thankfully, they were able to turn this thing around by rethinking the reward tiers and by introducing the webcomic. Those past few days were a huge success.

Just to keep negativity off the KS-comments section, I'll post my thoughts on the Prototype itself on this board:

On Chrome: Performance is a fucking nightmare. Couldn't bear it for more than about half a minute
Tried the extracted version on Firefox. Worked, no sound, crashed on me whenever I tried to cross the water.
    Disliked the right-click interface.
Some of the responses were actually quite funny.

Edit: One of the things that broke my heart that day was Mark Crowe's post on the comments, how he thought that releasing prototypes was probably a bad idea. NO, IT WASNT! It was a wonderful idea! Making these things Chrome-exclusive was a bad idea!

What Leo said. It wasn't a Chrome love affair. It was simply because focusing on one platform made it easier to complete Prototypes faster, and Chrome's Web Store was ideal for quick release in a user-friendly way. Also, making them compatible with other browsers would take about as long as making the Prototype itself, meaning 2x dev time.

This is what we need to reiterate over and over when the Chrome ghost rears its ugly head.

    +1 on IRC connection!

We could set up a web IRC client on SQN, a la webchat.quakenet.org, for users who can't deal with IRC, either.

I think that might be the best way to include as many as possible. You could even stream the Minecraft action on uStream or something, so us Minecraft-challenged could still follow along.

As I said in the rumour thread, it seems Mark also recognised that the prototypes have not necessarily worked in the favour. That being said, it would be disastrous to stop doing them now.

The best they can do really is to polish it more and more, things I'd like to see for next prototype would be:
Better pathfinding Inventory New room I also think it might be worth considering releasing the next as a stand alone executable, if technically feasible within the limited time, in order to demonstrate that it can be done.

I definitely think a $50 tier where you get access to a secret forum with exclusive info and access to the Two Guys a monthly Q&A with a status update of how the game is progressing/a few teasers would be very attractive to a good segment of the backers.

SpaceQuest.net could even host this :)

The idea of a documentary also seems to have been popular with earlier kickstarters, but I'm not sure it hasn't pretty much been done to death by now. I also don't know how practical it would be.

Edit: I think it might be better to add the forum access to the $45 tier. The matrix is already quite complex.
