I, too am a bit put off by all of the cartoony art work in newer adventure games. It is far too over used. For some games it may in keeping, both in terms of the nature of the game and in keeping with its past. By the time you get to VGA, the LSL games became more stylized caricatures. Sometimes, though, the absurdity of some situations is more acute and therefore funnier when it is more relatable to real life. Cartoons can make it too abstract. That said, SpaceVenture is not Space Quest. It might borrow heavily Scott and Mark's humor and puzzle style that they used in Space Quest, but it is its own entity. Whether it fits or not remains to be seen, but whatever the case, we should be happy for a new game from them. I am sure that they will deliver a quality product.

There are also a couple of DOSBox ports for Android.

SQ6 CRASH : Can't solve the famous problem, help me !
Collector replied to Timecop's topic in Starcon Academy
You should never use a slowdown utility with DOSBox. All you are doing is making it harder for the emulation. This is the purpose of setting cycles in DOSBox. Also, if you are editing paths in the RESOURCE.CFG, you need to use paths that the emulation within DOSBox can see from its mounted folders. "C:\Users\Dom\Documents\sq6" will be an invalid path within DOSBox. Not only will it not be able to see outside of the mounted folder, it will not be able see long file names. If you are thinking that my site is Sierra's, remember, Sierra no longer exists. Rather than trying to sort out your issues with DOSBox, I recommend that you just use the new installer. it will automatically setup and optimally configure and patch the games to run properly in DOSBox. You will be able to start the games from a Windows shortcut like a native Windows game. http://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/NewSierraInstallers.html#SQ -

It could have been even better if they had not watered it down for casual gamers.

Not to pile on, but TSL departs so much from the original spirit of KQ that it does not come across as anything like a KQ. The story and dialog is juvenile and overly melodramatic. However, not to completely bash the TSL team, it is incredible for anyone to finish such a large project in your spare time and many of the mistakes can be attributed inexperience. Many of the team were kids when they started and it shows. That said, I do wish them well in their new game.

Of course that was the Russian company that developed the 2006 VU releases that removed them, not GOG. Both GOG and Steam (mostly) used the 2006 collections. GOG is oblivious on some things, not not as bad as that company.
-
Some of the Steam and GOG Sierra games originate from the awful 2006 VU Quest series releases. The idiot Russian company that prepared them didn't really understand SCI and not only misconfigured t he games, but also ripped out a bunch of files. The removed files did not save then much space and ended up limiting options. The worst of it was the the launcher didn't allow for upgrading the ancient version of DOSBox. My patches fix all of the issues with these releases. I have been told that they work with the Steam versions, but I am unsure about GOG's. GOG breaks up the collections into smaller packages and includes the AGI versions of the first games in the various series. I would need copies of the GOG collections to adapt the patches, but I am through with fixing GOG's mistakes with no credit.

You don't even need to do anything with DOSBox. DOSBox is not part of the equation. No effort.
-
Actually, DOSBox is even easier to setup. You don't even have to change any settings for DOSBox. If your MT-32 is already correctly connected to your PC, all that is required is to set your system's MIDI device to your equivalent MPU-401 and set the game's config to MT-32 (soundDrv=MT32.DRV in the RESOURCE.CFG). I don't know what to say if you find this too difficult.
-
First install with this. It will set the game up to use GM music. http://sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/NewSierraInstallers.html#SQ To use MT-32 will require you to do a few more things. For Munt, be sure you have the 2 required ROMs from the real hardware. Don't ask for the ROMs as the legality of distributing them is questionable. Remember, Google is your friend. I wrote an installer for the MUNT driver a while back, but by now the driver in it is a bit dated, so I will not link to it. If you get the dosbox_mt32_2012_04_21.zip from https://github.com/sergm/munt_devel/downloads to replace your DOSBox, just drop the ROMs in the DOSBox folder. You can also try the qt-based app which can install the driver for you. Depending on which solution you use, you may need to either set DOSBox to use MUNT as your MIDI device in Windows or select it in your dosbox.conf. If the GM music is good enough for you, just use my installer. If you want to try MUNT and want more information, just let me know.

Replay Games drop Adventure Mob For Fusion Interactive

I don't think we need to look further beyond than this. Clearly they saw a need to move on from AM and any future games depend on this remake doing well. If they felt that their best options were to go with another developer, we should take their word on it. No need to invent conspiracy theories or start up the Paul Trowe accusations again. -

Not to mention Breaking Bad. This does not affect me, since I am on Time Warner, but I have been seeing the ads about Dish dropping it. -

Part of the intent of AGI was to make it easier to port to the various platforms. -
DOSBox should be a solution for that, before too long. Code for Voodoo emulation has been written and there is a patch to allow CD drive access with DOSBox booted to 95. 95 support is not quite ready yet, but I don't think it is that far away. Another promising development is the author of the Java port was experimenting with adding code from WINE to run Windows games without installing Windows in DOSBox. Here is the Caesar III demo and Full Tilt! Pinball running in it.

There is no reason to mess around with a dinosaur just for old DOS games. DOSBox is the best solution these days. Given all of the possible configurations, you can easily get more games to run in DOSBox than is possible on any one old DOS PC. If you just like puttering around with old hardware, that is one thing, but just to play old DOS games, it is not worth it.
