Er, Chris Pope - not our Datadog. :) Just to avoid any confusion.

Datadog was declared Pope? Congrats!

Seriously, though, I'm excited about the idea of a podcast. I wonder if they're thinking only in terms of news about the upcoming SPACEVENTURE, or if they'll delve back into the Space Quest days as well.

Oh, the connection with Space Quest will always be there, indelibly and indubitably. I don't think it was ever an intention to somehow distance themselves from their past exploits. In fact, quite the opposite. I have the feeling that if they could, they would be making a full-fledged Space Quest game right now.

I simply thought that the title "SpaceVenture" was already a play on "Space Quest" - that they would be continuing Roger's adventures under a different name. Still, if they're using Kickstarter, I'm ready to throw my money at them.

Well, ActiVision also owns the rights to the character and name "Roger Wilco". They'd have to, seeing as they were attempting to relabel Space Quest as "Roger Wilco in...." in huge letters on their various boxes after SQ3, probably due to the whole museum trademark thing, is that right?

Pretty sure it's just copyright protecting them at this point (which is enough for any derivative works using Roger Wilco in a space game) - I believe the Roger Wilco trademark has been canceled.

I believe you're thinking of patents. To my knowledge, trademarks do not expire after a certain length of time, but they have to be in commercial use or they will become invalid.
