Mr_Homn reacted to Blackthorne in The Big Final Push - SpaceVentureHey There Guys,
I know I've been following the Two Guys Kickstarter for Space Venture with an active eye. Someting tells me that you guys around here haven't heard about it yet - www.tgakick.com if you haven't seen it!
Heh - just kidding!
But seriously - it's the big push now. The final days. I'm very excited about it, and things seem to keep climbing. This game getting funded is so important to me. I know it's important to all of us. I figured a thread where we could watch, talk about and support the final push was in order.
I'm so impressed with how hard everyone here has worked to support this. I've seen all your names all over the Kickstarter, Twitter, here, there everywhere..... I love being a part of this community. I'm glad that people like you care about adventure games, and that you care about Space Quest.
I know there's been some lumps in this campaign, and some extremely shifty things have gone down. Let's save the savagry about that for later. Scott and Mark.... they're like old friends. To some of you, they ARE old friends! And I want to see my friends rise again to do what they do best. Mark, Scott and Chris Pope are working so hard on all of this. We're going to do this.
And someday, in the future, I wanna have a Google hangout where we're all playing Space Venture together. Because it's gonna happen.

Mr_Homn reacted to MusicallyInspired in hi allMwardie, I don't know if you're trolling or innocently impatient, but I've asked you before and I'm going to ask again. Please don't make double posts. It clutters up threads. Also, please don't use centered or strikeout text unless there's a purpose for it. It makes your posts hard to read on certain displays.
We've already told you everything we know. We need to get to $400k to get another prototype. We've made over $400k now. It will come soon. Nobody has any more information. It adds nothing to keep asking and asking. It'll be out when it's announced.
Thank you! :)

I support the Kickstarter campaign as much as anyone, and I was able to pledge $500.00, because it was money that I had free to spend. However, I would take my money back if I needed it for myself in order to survive. You should too. This campaign is a big deal, but not that big of a deal.

Mr_Homn reacted to s_d in Spread this amongst your web design/dev friendsWhen one ports a game to a new platform, tweaks are made, features added, sacrifices made. This does not necessarily mean that design compromises always have to be made; simply that differences exist between ports. For example; the tablet version of the prototypes use a touch-and-wait interface to present the action icons. I doubt that the desktop versions would need such a feature.
Likewise, the tablet versions of SpaceVenture may eschew parts of the parser; perhaps they will have slightly different hotspots to accomplish the same puzzles, etc. The point is that if there is a way to export the game assets and some large aspects of game logic to multiple platforms (such as engines that can export to Flash, etc), then the possibility of a playable HTML5 target could be a reality. It has been my experience with code generation tools that such an exercise is invariably coupled with hand-massaging on each port. But, this is fine, and ought to be expected. The higher quality the output tool, the more flexible the game assets, and the more skilled and funded the development team, the easier this process is.
I'm extremely excited at the prospect of playing this game (and, with luck, its many successors) natively on my Linux desktop, and then later working a puzzle on my Android mobile while waiting in line, having a friend help me with a difficult part that he demonstrates on his Mac laptop, watching Let's Play's on YouTube posted by Windows gamers, etc. I see no reason that HTML5 can't play a part in that, and be a vehicle to sell the game commercially on the Chrome App Market, the upcoming Mozilla HTML5 App Market, and of course iOS.
I hope that this vision of an open web utilizing open standards can be realized alongside the traditional desktop paradigm (the one on which I rely more than anything else).

Evidentally, this is getting quite ugly indeed. The best thing we can do is to stay positive and keep the discussion here clean, as well as keeping this subject away from the Kickstarter page.
Now, I don't want to draw any conclusions myself, but it is fairly obvious that something fishy has been, and is, going on, and no matter who the perpetrators are, they should face some consequences.
Till then, let's show them - no matter who they are - that we are the better people...

Mr_Homn reacted to Telix Zmodem in Kickstarter- page revision suggestionsFor another point of view, I'll have to give my own. I disagree with making wild changes. The simple reason? This is a kickstarter project and it doesn't work like that.
Kickstarter projects are one-shot deals, or you have to start another project. So every one of us visited the page for the first time, and decided to make a pledge. Fans of the game will make pledges, people who are fans of adventure games, and games in general. Sci-fi fans who don't play games might support it. Fans of comedy support it, because let's admit, it's hilarious.
Some people just aren't ready to be 'roasted' or expect to be with the Two Guys from Andromeda-style of humor. It's not always like that, but it's something they feel compelled to defend against? It's funny to read some of the 'confessional's from people who played the games for free, but it is what it is, it's software piracy.
On top of this, there's an obvious pullback from 'web publications' to cover this story for free. So it's fans + the Two Guys, so I think the more information the better. Burying information in links is not the answer.
Nothing needs to be replaced or removed: all they can do is plan what to post for the next two weeks, and take what they learn to the next project (if need be... all funds are returned and no harm done). So focus on the future!
I want to see a new video like Al Lowe did... respond to fans and backers questions and feedback. Easy 100K boost right there! Anyone interested in voice acting is in for a TREAT if they haven't listened to Rob Paulsen's 45 minute interview.
"At the same time", "That being said", there are kids complaining that the Rob Paulsen interview was boring or god-awful. Personally I find that attitude lacking respect or understanding, but maybe it's because I am interested in voice acting and his work. Either way, the rude comments online aren't helping anything, everyone backing the project should keep it positive. Deleting things is not an option in a kickstarter campaign, nor is it recommended. Best bet is to learn and move on if a project doesn't succeed.
This one will! I have confidence the fans will rally the necessary support to get ALL of these games 'pre-ordered'. If not, well I guess fans can't have nice things.

Mr_Homn got a reaction from Frede in Space Quest Superfan Hangout to promote the SpaceVentureWell I certainly didn't plan on it, but once i started I couldn't stop! especially when scott showed up. I was glued to my monitor, hehe. I lost as much sleep as you guys i think.
Ah, thanks!

Mr_Homn got a reaction from Troels Pleimert in Space Quest Superfan Hangout to promote the SpaceVentureas silly as it might sound, since none of you have ever met me, i feel a special connection to some of you guys from this superfan event. after hearing you guys talk for four hours, you all feel like my space quest brothers from another mother! Thank you for representing the fandom so well!
Troels and Frede, knowing how dedicated you have been over the decades (!) it was really heartwarming to see! You might feel like you spoke too much or whatever, but you guys are entertaining and funny and really kept the energy high. Especially seeing Troels progressively get drunker and drunker and let his inner fan boy creep out a little bit towards the end (in a good way)... Troels bringing up how this has been one of the greatest years of his life, and how it feels like a culmination of all the hard work he's put in on being the space quest historian and basically keeping this community together for years. All I can say is job well done.
BTW- i live in dallas fort worth, and it was really interesting to hear from Scott that Glanz Handerson is a news reporter from my area. I've listened over and over, but I can't recognize the voice. Anyone know who plays Glanz?

Mr_Homn got a reaction from MusicallyInspired in Space Quest Superfan Hangout to promote the SpaceVentureAs an observer watching the recorded stream, i have to admit i was a little worried that when scott showed up it would turn into fanboy gushing and he would end up regretting it, but much to my satisfaction you guys were all super chill and scott really seemed to genuinely enjoy it. Seemed like he had just as much fun as you guys, if not more, and he seemed really touched by it all. and that was really cool to see. Really awesome stuff. Cool night in space quest history
edit - i could see something like this going viral and when people see how fuckin' cool scott is it could really help the pledges

I'll admit, I ended up not really playing much, but Scott turning up was huge. More than often, I found myself not being able to concentrate on the games because I wanted to hear the stories he told. This guy really knows how to tell an anecdote, and there must be a ton of laughs in that video. Probably one of the funniest things I've ever participated in, and well worth losing a night's sleep over. You guys make for some hilarious company, and I'd be very willing to do it again sometime.

Mr_Homn reacted to benrett in What if we won't make it?One thing some new people to Kickstarter do not realise is that there is often a big surge in funding during the last couple of days. Regular KS funders often use the "Remind me" button when browsing projects that take their interest rather than contributing off the bat. This often is so they don't over commit themselves or is used when the project is only of a casual interest rather than a must-fund. That Remind me button automatically sends out a email notification and reminder to the person 48 hours before the funding wraps. So there will be a significant last day surge. That period is also when some of the hardcore fans up their pledges to silly amounts just to make sure the project succeeds.
If the funding does fall through then the guys could create a new Kickstarter project at a later date with a lesser financial goal and source the remainder of the funding from a publisher? Or they could just go to a publisher for the whole fund? I imagine the reason why they would prefer this Kickstarter campaign to succeed is that they would guarantee development of the new game and be able to keep all royalities and rights to any new intellectual property they create. Unlike Space Quest where the IP was owned by the publisher Sierra Online who both funded development and published the games.

Mr_Homn reacted to drdrslashvohaul in What if we won't make it?It's a fair question to ask, in my opinion. It may never come to it, but it would be interesting to know if the possibility has been considered.
Consider everything.
I doubt we'll get an answer until after the kickstarter has finished anyway. It would be ridiculous to even entertain the idea in public until they know one way or the other whether the campaign has been successful.
HOWEVER, the fear that it might not be successful should be a spur to get others to up their pledges and/or try and spread the word. It's a long weekend here in England, so hopefully I'll be able to do SOMETHING (even if it is minor in the grand scheme of things).
