Spikey got a reaction from Dopefish in Anyone interested in t-shirts?
Just bought the Sierra one. Great T-shirts. I want the Genetix one also, but will have to wait a bit first.
Please keep us updated on these, DF. :)

Spikey got a reaction from JDHJANUS in 101 uses for a frosty cup of Soylent Smoothee
(Gary Owens voice) "Wow, it's a genuine Soylent Smoothee machine, with that fresh burst of NENERGY that's all the rage these days. Perfect for those days where you need a pick-me-up, when you feel a little.. less human than normal. You've never figured out why only the hardcore drink these, but because of that, it's handy for putting off people you want to put off. That reminds me, if your obnoxious apartment neighbour sees you drinking one, he might think twice before letting his pet miniature Orat acid spray on your mecha-tulips.. AGAIN."

OK, I can definitely make Dec 6 or 11th. :) Will get back to you once I have more concrete stuff going on.

Spikey reacted to Blackthorne in Space Quest Historian Podcast - The Official Thread
I liked LSL1,2 & 3 because, at the time, they were kind of silly fun. The graphics were fun and colorful, but they didn't really have the cartoon style that was established later... and things kind of changed then. Seriously. LSL2 has an item named an Onklunk. That is awesomely silly.

Spikey got a reaction from Frede in Space Quest Lego UPDATE : Galaxy Galleria
Freakin' awesome, BM. Keep up the good work!
My request would be either of these from SQ6:
1. Roger stuck in the streets of Polysorbate, using the robot to get out
2. Roger jumping on Stellar as she rescues him from the kidnap apartment

Spikey got a reaction from MusicallyInspired in SQ5 Space Bar Music Easter Egg
Over the years, I've spoken to both Tim Clarke and Chris Stevens. The following is all from memory with no contemporary Googling or emailing, so could be out of date. Tim is a trombonist and jazz musician who's highly regarded. he did own a game music company, SCORE, at one point, but I think that's folded since. I once approached him about SQ5 and he was still into it. I never took advantage of his interest at the time though, unfortunately.
Chris Stevens is a Nashville producer, his most famous act is the Christian hiphop (?) sort of act, Toby Mac. He's a successful guy. I've only spoken to him briefly, and he never got back to me the last time we traded emails.
As for Close Encounters, I guess it is! Great find MI! Reminds me of the Bond movie Moonraker where that 5 notes is the keypad to get into the bad guys' lab.

Spikey got a reaction from MusicallyInspired in Room removed for Legal Reasons
I can even update MI's list and say that Neal Grandstaff composed SQ6, with Dan Kehler being brought in at the last minute to fill some holes ("additional music"). And, Mark Seibert did compose some music in SQ4.
I wonder what the piece of music is in the legal reasons room.. I've never seen it myself.

Spikey got a reaction from Troels Pleimert in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter update
He's done enough Trowe-lling for Sierra IP, that's for sure..
I'm done being serious on this topic. Time to either move on and focus on the 2Guys announcement, or look on the funny side of this. Only so many times we can rehash this story, I think the main exercise, getting kudos to the burned Replay volunteers and exposing Paul, is accomplished. Great job to all involved (except you-know-who).

Spikey got a reaction from Tom King in Paul Trowe criticism on Kickstarter update
I just don't think it's worth it for Al going forward to associate himself with Paul Trowe. As I wrote on the Replay forums, Al already has the money, he has the critical acclaim, the point of continuing with Larry is partially to continue that, but more for himself and to finalize his legacy. Paul Trowe is death by association, presumably one of the reasons Josh left, and why would Al want his name saddled to that oaf long-term. Sooner or later he'll need to break the chain, and then we'll really know where we're at.
I also think it's worth reiterating that Josh Mandel had a lot to do with the success, and quality of, LSL1:R. I would wager over 50% of the new text was written by him.

Hey, folks. How's everybody doing.
I'm kinda late on this one, but there's just a few things I want to say:
1. YIKES
2. Serena, Irishmile, Jeroen, and so forth, sorry to hear about you guys getting shafted, you guys did a lot for the Replay community and the success of the Reloaded project, so thankyou from the bottom of my heart. I have a box in my SMC studio with larry reloaded stuff in it and i'm sure it wouldn't have happened without you guys.
3. Paul Trowe is a dickbag (more to the point, I started a thread about him during the 2Guys' Kickstarter last year and some people did not get that he was doing anything wrong.. I hope everybody is now on the same page about Paul and the potential harm he can bring to the Sierra table)
4. Josh Mandel has been the #1 important part of the LSL project and now that he is MIA, I am very worried. Any time a bad Paul thing was going down, I was talking to him about it, and while I can't really share any of that, it hurt Josh very deeply and he copped a lot of personal attacks on behalf of Replay, and misdirected anger over Paul got sent his way a lot as well.
I would ask anyone and everyone, please send Josh an email at joshoATjosho.com and let him know that we're sorry he's been shafted in this way, and that we still love him for what he's done in the community and what he will do in the future.
On Josh:
Someone mentioned why Josh would want to be a part of Replay. Josh is a game designer, and Paul Trowe's numerous flaws aside (many of which were not necessarily obvious to Josh before these Kickstarter events), he has (had?) pulling power and was able to give Josh's projects budgets and attention. Obviously we have seen how that has ended, but there was good potential there. Sadly, Al and Josh's time, money and efforts have been ruined, for a better word, and post LSL:R, assuming Al and Josh work together in the future, they have to find another backer (although honestly, I don't see how Al would not have the money to fund it himself if he wanted to).
Anyway, this is a truly sad affair, but kudos to the community for banding together like champs. Let's hope there's a silver lining (pun not intended) and that we come out of this stronger. Plus, for every Replay Games, there's a SpaceVenture, Hero-U, Moebius, and so forth.

Another point on Josh Mandel and why he's probably in damage control on his own end (sadly, probably in his own mind as opposed to the kind that Lawl Trowe-ll is doing):
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-12-04-replay-games-appoints-josh-mandel-as-cco
He was going to be a big player at Replay (still is?) and I think this has really thrown a spanner in Josh's proverbial works, in terms of future game development for him and his career. Utterly tragic, yet another setback for the "3rd Guy from Andromeda" who (in my opinion) is the nicest ex-Sierra employee; one of the most talented, definitely the most funny and best at writing click messages. I hope I'm reading too much into this and that Replay isn't dead.. but it's hard to see how the ship can right itself this time, after Paul's final meltdown.
(Guess you can't get that Astro Chicken timer to stop..)

Spikey got a reaction from torchinomotorino in Hero-U - New game from Lori & Corey Cole
At the end of the day, I like where they're going with combat, etc, but that's all window-dressing. I care about story, which the Coles will deliver in droves, and from what I've read, talked to the Coles about, etc, the focus will not be on HD art or photorealism, but rather, solid plot, RPG action, and above all, their mantra, FUN. That's what I care about, immersion and gameplay, not pretty, pointless things or pure looting or pure plot. QFG was always about balance an I feel really confident that they're following some of an old formula and a major new twist.
Without wishing to diss the Guys, and I would have always pledged for SV no matter what, I feel this KS is more exciting in many ways. They're promising a lot and asking for not much. Plus, the team is very promising and Corey and Lori have been very open. They get major kudos in my book for that alone.
Anyway, stay tuned. This will be a keeper.

Spikey got a reaction from Christian Giegerich in Space Quest IV: Soundtrack 10th/20th anniversary announced on SMC
(x-posted from the SMC forums)
Hey folks,
To celebrate the Two Guys reuniting, and releasing a new game (albeit not a SQ game), I am proud to pledge SMC's support and celebrate by announcing something I've been working on since the start of April, which is..
<drumroll>
.. the Space Quest IV Soundtrack, the 10th anniversary (of the original recording by SMC of the soundtrack in its' entirety)/20th anniversary (of the game and its' music) edition!
The original Roland MT-32 score has been edited from the original game MIDI resources, and will be enhanced with Roland Sound Canvas (SC-55/8820/8850) and Yamaha XG (MU-2000) tracks.
Now for those who remember the 2002 MT-32 MP3 recordings I have over at Roger Wilco's Virtual Broomcloset, you may remember although it's a good effort for what it was, there's a lot of sound effect tracks that have no music, and tracks start/finish rather haphazardly at times.
This is a different animal altogether. There will be no sound effect only pieces, such as "Security Droid" and "Programming Chamber" (although some sound effects will be present in the soundtrack recording), and each piece has been carefully edited from the original game resources, not recorded in-game, so as to give proper starts/endings to each piece.
There are a couple of musical-ish pieces that are basic and ambient, such as the Estros and Ulence Flats background music, but that's about it.
But don't just listen to me. How's this for an endorsement- Ken Allen (original composer) just previewed the SMC beta for Track 1, the title theme, and gave this preliminary feedback: "The music sounds great".
You can listen here: http-~~-//sierramusiccentral.com/assorted/SQ4Track01.mp3
Or direct download here.
Regards,
- Spike

Spikey got a reaction from Troels Pleimert in Burning questions for The Pope
Yeah, definitely need to hear about his motivations, why he represents these people and why it made sense to partner with the 2 Guys so he could link the two partnerships (his team of people he represents, and the Guys).
Why he would get involved with Kickstarter, and most of all, what he sees going forward with the 2 Guys now that SpaceVenture is funded and will be made.
Is it another SV game, will he be pursuing SQ IP, or will they move on? (Not a definite answer or anything, but just some ideas on what his goals with them are.)

Spikey reacted to Capn_Ascii in SpaceVenture's Backers... Where are they hiding?
I dunno about that, now. I didn't pay for behind-the-scenes peeks; I paid to get the damned game made. :D
In my case, I've been *intentionally* avoiding most Spaceventure news and sneak peeks. Why's that? Because the Spaceventure is a once-in-a-lifetime, bonafide *treasure* - not just some new game - and I want NO SPOILERS WHATSOEVER. I intend to savor the game like some super-expensive French dish you pay 100 dollars for at a fancy resturant, and the best way to do that is to go in completely blind. No previews, no knowledge of voice acting casts or concept art or anything of the sort. I want to boot up the game eventually and be knocked on my ass by it because every single thing in it is delightfully unknown ahead of time. :)
The only reason I'm not doing the same thing with the LSL remake is because I've already played the original inside and out. :P In this case, it's like one of those "restore an old car" shows - it's fun watching them take the classic game and pour so much effort into making it shine for a new generation.
