General discussion about anything not related to Space Quest or the Two Guys.

  1. Started by Rogerwilcojr,

Does anyone have skype on here? if so give me your username? I would love to talk about space quest.

  2. So this looks need. Adventures are now possible in the ZDoom source port. Possibilities... http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=49027

To all of our great relief, it looks like the fantasminominal soundtracks of Quest Studios are getting a new home and won't be lost forever to time! http://www.midimusicadventures.com/queststudios/ Including all the other resources it had like the MT-32 resource center and other applications. This is a great day. Now I'm actually going to download them all like I had originally planned but never did before QS went down.

Just as we are coming to grips with the passing of Gary Owens, we’ve lost another pillar of the science fiction community. Leonard Nimoy, age 83, has died. Leonard Nimoy Passes away at age 83

  5. Started by MusicallyInspired,

Just finished Broken Age. Both acts. Right from the start. I purposely started over to experience the entire game in one sitting (well, not one sitting, but one playthrough with both acts in context). That's more like it, Tim. I wouldn't say quite up to Day of the Tentacle or other Golden Era game standards, but much much closer this time. I was scratching my head on a few occasions and when I was worried the game was over it carried on for even a little while longer than I expected it to. MORE of that, please! I was hoping for more locations than what we'd seen in Act 1, but judging by the content of the documentary, it's just great to see the thing finished at all. Not …

Greetings everyone! My roommates and I have been brainstorming ideas on how to inject some 'new life' into our cobweb-ridden youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/Movieman1885 If anyone would be interested in helping with video ideas don't hesitate to shoot a line my way! :D

  8. It looks like Al Lowe's contract with Replay ended and he decided not to renew it: @allowe The interesting part is that he appearently decided to retire due to probable issues with Paul Trowe (what a surprise). Well, i'm sorry about Al Lowe not working anymore on LSL. Paul Trowe shows once again he's probably not the nicest person alive.

  9. "THEY DID WHAT?!?!?!?!?!" A bunch of Sierra classics are among the list of released games as well. Even some rather obscure titles that yours truly never even heard of. Click here! Activision, you've had your chance to milk that cow for all it was worth and you blew it! edit: Tried my hand at "Mixed-Up Fairy Tales", because that's how tough muthafuckas roll! I don't know why, but for some reason the interface doesn't do anything. Oh well, maybe I'll try some of the other stone-age-Sierras later, maybe those will work properly. edit 2: LSL 5 asks me for my password. Never having entered one, I'm thrown out of the game after a few unsuccessful attempts. :P I…

  10. Not official yet, but all the evidence points to the fact that Disney is finally getting LA games going on GOG from the scrapped deal that the original LA was making with GOG before the buyout. Some more info and evidence in this post at the scummvm boards. http://forums.scummvm.org/viewtopic.php?t=13744 EDIT: Confirmed! More info: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/tomorrows_lucasart_releases_confimed_so_far/page1 So far Monkey Island Special Edition, Knights of the Old Republic, Tie Fighter Special Edition, X-Wing Special Edition, Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis, and Sam & Max Hit The Road are confirmed. I'm not sure if the Tie Fighter and X-Wi…

  11. Started by JimmyTwoBucks,

I've only ever played King's Quest 5 and 6... is it worth playing 1-4 and 7? Or are there some I should avoid? In general, I like to avoid things like arcade sequences, things where there is a timer, and dead ends. So would those earlier King's Quests be too frustrating for someone like me?

  12. Started by Troels Pleimert,

We've got a couple of music threads going, so I thought I'd add to the mayhem and seriously bring some noise. There seems to be a fair number of metalheads among Space Quest fans. Our very own MusicallyInspired, of course. And, much to my ecstatic surprise, it turns out that Tom King, the dude who plays Chuck Clusterbluck on my podcast, has a very similar taste in music to my own. So, hey, come forward! What kind of metal (if any) are you guys into? My favorite style is industrial metal. It's not just the mix of computer sounds, distorted guitars and furious double-pedal drumming. I am fascinated with industrial metal's preoccupation with dehumanization; the s…

  13. A bunch of people like they‘re stuff... Everything after Year Zero With Teeth sucked. Discuss! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KhhwkvJT28 This live performance from '94 makes me cum hard! Self-Destruct-era NIN = best NIN. And this is Self-Destruct-era NIN at their bestest! Reznor must‘ve done a whole trainload of coke backstage, the guy‘s on fire here. The recording ain‘t half bad either. Highlights include complete and utter carnage during „Happiness In Slavery“, some guy from the audience getting his 15 seconds of fame by shouting abuse at the rest of the audience during „Down In It“ and some dumb bitch blocking the view during „Head Like A Hole“. If only I…

  14. I've read a lot of stuff on adventure games where people have singled out things like SQ and KQ with the idea that parsers were good for their day, but are now an outdated technology that we should be glad to be rid of. I, on the other hand, really like parsers and will often happily play purely text-based parser games with no graphics at all. I definitely prefer them to point and clicks, and I like having adventure games that are puzzles without all the 3d spatial awareness needed in modern full-3d game types. (Also this isn't just 1980s nostalgia in my case, I can confirm: I wasn't born until the mid-90s!) What do you all think of text parsers? Good riddance, cute b…

  15. Started by Frede,

Since we seem to have a surprising amount of fans here - and by that, I mean more than myself - I thought a Frank Zappa thread would be interesting. Perhaps more so to the uninitiated (I'm particularly looking at Troels here). Right now, I'm loving the hell out of circa 1973/1974 Zappa. He was always a multi-faceted human and musician, starting his career ostensibly playing hippie music (ironically, he was a conservative even back then) with satiric undertones and continuing to explore different genres until he untimely departed this plane as, perhaps, the most unique electronic/classical composer the world has ever seen. But there was one era of Zappa that just plain…

  16. Started by MusicallyInspired,

It looks like Double-Fine has rescinded the review embargo stating that it is obviously "very exciting" for people and controlling that would be difficult. They've graciously allowed all reviews and let's play videos of the game asking only to keep yourself from spoiling the ending (which is GOOD, definitely keeps you wanting more). I highly recommend pre-ordering on Steam for those who haven't backed or bought it yet. For those interested, here's my review of the game I put on Steam: As a backer of the Kickstarter for this game, I was given early access to Act I. So I won't spoil any of the story, but I will say that this is a very good adventure game experienc…

So, yeah... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2473230,00.asp http://kotaku.com/day-of-the-tentacle-is-getting-remastered-1667741724 It's unclear whether this is the 80% completed DOTT HD that was being worked on after the MI special editions before LucasArts was axed, but it's coming either way.

  18. I thought with the space quest community being what we are, that it might be nice for us to reach out and help other kickstarters in need. With that in mind, I present Unforgotten Quest, a 2D side scrolling action RPG with a heavy focus on humour an d4th wall breaking (really its right up the alley of space quest fans) You can check out the kick starter here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/urealms/unforgotten-quest

It's been a couple of days, but considering many (all?) of us are into retro gaming in general, this may interest you: http://3drealms.com/news/3d_realms-is-back/. Yes, like Sierra, 3D Realms is officially back in business. But unlike the former re-branding, the new 3DR has a few of the old alumni on-board. Plus, they're owned by the Danish company Interceptor Entertainment, which I obviously think is insanely cool, and I'm not a patriot in the slightest. Many of the games published or developed by Apogee/3D Realms were main fixtures of my childhood, so it's nice to see the company going back into business with a bang. Many of these games are obviously available elsew…

  20. There‘s been some lively discussion over in the GK20 thread over which of the puzzles should have received a makeover. This got me thinking: Which puzzles would I change/dumb-down/streamline/straight up rip out of the game in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to make it not suck if I were to remake any of the old classics? Leave all your personal cat hair moustaches, spliced tapes and put gem in mouths here! My own personal least favourite: Police Quest SWAT „Pup, the LASH is not a toy!“ If only I had a dollar for every time I heard that! Fuck you, Daryl F. Gates!

Many of you may know that I have been working with Sunlight Games to bring the original Gold Rush! to modern PCs. This work is now done and the game will be released shortly. It will be available as a digital download from Sunlight's store and Steam. There will also be a boxed copy that will be shipped worldwide.

  23. This is apparently "Mystery Game X" that Jane Jensen and Pinkerton Road Studios have been teasing since their Kickstarter. The backgrounds look amazing and the remade theme song is quite good as well. Website Interview with Jane Jensen

  24. Started by Dat Engineer,

To some extent, purchasing classic games on GOG.com may be superfluous for many of us since we already have original or working copies of the games on the website. However, I know that in my case there are some games that I have lost over the years, or simply have not played. So, I encourage all of you to post your GOG.com collections, and show the games that you have purchased since the website went online. In no particular order, here's mine: The Incredible Machine (Mega Pack) Syndicate Fallout 1 Ultima IV Myst - Masterpiece Edition RealMYST Uru: Complete Chronicles Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games One Unit Whole Blood …

  25. Why must everything be politically correct? If we want blandness, then we could apply a politically correct standard and "make a few simple changes" over and over to works until there is finally nothing "offensive" to a particular narrow way of thinking. And it would still never be enough. Please, all you developers out there, resist the urge to comply with the free speech-chilling, politically correct rules. I find it refreshing when games and other works show irreverence to the PC sensibility. Make the games the way you want to make them, and remember that there's nothing wrong with a little fan service. If you're worrying about whether your game will be perceived as…
