In my experience, these are few and far between. Thankfully, this looks like it’s about to change, with the (hopefully) upcoming Space Venture by the Two Guys from Andromeda and that rather awesome looking project called Stasis. Aside from these, if a new game were to be made in this genre, what would people like to see incorporated into the game? I’ve tried to distil down some ideas, and have come up with the following points that I would like to see implemented: - Characters and a story that makes you feel emotionally invested in the outcome (duh) - Strange and eery environments punctuated by the familiar - A sense of control over where you go (i.e. less l…

This project seems to be fantastic! Only a few days left to get this cool game funded: It's great that we have Double Fine, Space Venture, Fedora and so on so let's help these guys to do it as well!

We need a movie thread. I'll start off with the new debut trailer of Expendables 2. Others may have found the first movie stupid and shallow, but I loved it. It's gonna be great to see all these action heroes together in the next film. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XQf3YP8p85I Also, I'm really excited about the new Alien prequel film Prometheus by Ridley Scott, director of the first Alien. The story focuses on the crashed ship from the first movie and the race that occupied it, rather than the Xenomorph Aliens. Although, I'm sure we'll see and feel some familiar vibes. I'm excited to finally get some backstory on the strange and myster…

Apparently so.. http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/30/leisure-suit-larry-creator-wants-infringing-kickstarter-campaign-taken-down-exclusive/ Thoughts? Seems like maybe it's being taken too far by Replay, but it's hard to say. I'm not sure how I feel just yet.

Since SpaceVenture benefited greatly from cross-promotion between Kickstarter projects, and the SQN forum admins have been quite welcoming to fellow adventure game KS projects posting here (Larry, Moebius, Tex Murpy, Quest for Infamy, etc), I think it would be great to at least attempt to keep them together for discussion. Right now, each project has it's own thread, which is probably fine after it funds, but as long as there is a steady flow of Kickstarter adventure games, we may come to a point where the Rocket Bar is littered with these threads rather than the comatose remains of serious ale fiends. To start it off, here's a project I'm excited about, from on…

If anyone's interested I recently uploaded a video review a friend and I did for the Wolfman Remake. I had intended for it to be uploaded that night, but learned the hard way I lacked the resources...better late than never I suppose :P I love Mike's characterization but my "80s Guy" persona could use some work...he's basically me not being called Alan, I may retool the character for future reviews both new and old that are planned...stay tuned!

I'm speaking, of course, about Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender. For those of you who haven't heard of the game, it's a sci-fi comedy adventure game by Microprose with a bumbling male protagonist that can die in numerous violent (and comical) ways. This description might lead one to believe that it's just a Space Quest knockoff, but upon closer examination, one may find that it's more of a Space Quest knockoff with a bit of a Leisure Suit Larry flavor and a bit of Microprose's own "unique" brand of humor thrown in. (It's no wonder that Sierra made a jab at this game in the beta version of SQ5.) I played the game a while ago and while it's not a bad …

Hey SQ friends, So I'm setting up a new home studio around Cubase. I would like your recommendations for the best VST libraries out there. My goal is to bring the awesomeness of the SQ4 soundtrack into the 21st century. I already have the Garritan Personal Orchestra as well as LASS and Edriol's Orchestral. Honestly, if this is the this is at best that's out there? Meh. But, you musician working stiffs, you know what's best. What do you recommend? As always, your music pal, Ken Allen

I've decided to release the regular game soundtrack seeing as the Special Edition OST is taking longer than I had hoped (but I still plan on finishing). This is the original music pack that was used for the game itself. It's got all the music files in there. I don't have all the masters anymore so these aren't the highest quality, but they are listenable and should do for people who have been waiting a while. The special edition soundtrack is not finished yet and will be a while still. Hopefully this can hold people over until it gets done finally. Please note that this is quickly slapped together and not organized at all. But everything should be there. I also inc…

Just curious if anyone is watching or looking forward to any TV shows. (Yes, this is an international forum but should still be interesting) As for me, I haven't been watching much TV lately, the SyFy channel is wrestling and fantasy and the History Channel is...not history, and pretty much everything else also doesn't seem to be worth watching... Earlier this year I watched all of Stargate (SG-1 is really good) and Battlestar Galactica (pretty good, the last season is kind of lame). Is there anything else to look forward to?

I don't really get why buying games like Space Quest is such a big deal. Believe me -- I will be one of the first people to say that you should support the developer of games that you enjoy playing. However, is any of the money that I spent for Space Quest V on ebay last week going to the original content creators? What about the collection that I bought on GOG.com? Does any of that go to Scott Murphy or Mark Crowe or anyone else who was originally involved with its creation? If it does, please correct me -- This isn't an argument so much as it is just me voicing some thoughts. This is made especially more frustrating by the fact that Collector's patches only work…

Did anyone else see this movie? I thought it was pretty awesome, myself. I will confess that I never read any comic books growing up, but I still really enjoy the Marvel movies, and I honestly think that this is their best one yet. It has great action, humor and pacing, and it is just pure fun from from beginning to end. I did notice one thing that seemed like a plot hole to me, but I won't mention it here, since maybe you all didn't see the movie yet. Also, it is the first movie I saw in imax, which was interesting, but not really as big of a deal as I expected.

Haven't seen this posted here yet, but hopefully interesting to you all. As is fashionable these days, Jane Jensen recently launched a Kickstarter campaign, you can see it here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1005365109/jane-jensens-pinkerton-road-2012-2013-csg Overall, I'm pretty excited, and I'm hoping for some more great games from her! It seemed like she had a lot of trouble getting Gray Matter pushed out the door, and then it still seemed a bit low on production value. Gabriel Knight isn't on the table, but her next game, Moebius, sounds pretty interesting. They've only been up a few days and seem to be trending well funding-wise, but as with an…

http://mixnmojo.com/news/Leisure-Suit-L ... -announced Replay Games, which earlier this year licenced the rights to the Leisure Suit Larry games and re-released the first one on their website, has announced that they're working on a HD remake of this very game. Larry creator Al Lowe has joined the team and the plan is to continue making original adventures in 2012. If the remake proves successful they may also attempt to remake the rest of the series. When asked about Larry in today's world, Al said: “As a software salesman, I think Larry would feel right at home [in today's Internet age], and would stay current … at least with pornography.”

Wow...It's been a while. Last time I posted here I was engaged to a [redacted] who ended up running off with some guy she knew in highschool shortly thereafter. Ah well. The important thing is the two guys are back together! So I thought I'd join in the returns. So...yeah. :P Here I am.

HHHEEEEUUUUURRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!! Well, they did it. They finally did it. I was perfectly content to finally let go of my mental death grip on Space Quest and allow myself to drift off into the far reaches of the Internet. SQ would be nothing more than a memory - a part of my life whose time had passed, but whose spirit would always stay with me in my heart, warming my soul and carrying me forward to greater things. And then hell froze over. Suddenly, I felt a powerful pulling sensation - as if some unseen force was trying to snatch me away from my comfortable burrow in the dark corners of the Web. I tried to resist, tried to fight it - but it's n…

With the Two Guys' Kickstarter on its way in the near future, I thought this video raises some excellent points about the creative advantages of the crowdfunding model over traditional video game publishing routes. Extra Credits, Season 4, Episode 10: Crowdfunding Just food for thought... Jess
