Some Sierra questions for y'all. I'll give my own answers first. 1) When do you feel was Sierra's peak? Creatively, and in terms of their relevance/impact on the industry? Creatively, I feel they reached their peak between 1991 and 1995. SQIV, KQVI, Laura Bow II, Conquests series, Gabriel Knight in late '93, GK2, SQ6 and Torin's Passage in '95. I'd argue they started slipping in '94, though. Impact on the industry wise, I feel they hit their peak in 1997. They were the market share leader in PC gaming for several years in a row, and in 1997 were a massive conglomerate and had made what would be their final two purchases of smaller developers. They had studi…

Greetings fellow Snout worshippers! I'm sure a few of you have seen a few of my videos on youtube, if not feel free to hop over to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYW50EYTgi_JyIuSkbav_gQ and give it a glance when you have a chance! As you can see, I have a eclectic mix of videos on various subjects, topics, and whatnot, as well as a handful of views, and an even smaller finger-ful of subscribers. I'd like to try and change that, there's a large internet out there and many crowds to be reached, and I know there's very few subjects out there haven't been vloged, tweeted, and facebooked ad-nausea, but very few of these subjects have the 'Alan-ness' and I'd like to …

Outside of The Mos Isley Cantina and the Space Bars shown in I, SQIV and, VI, what are some other great, classical space bars or cantinas, in either books, movies or games? What are some space fantasy novels or movies akin to Guardians of the Galaxy or the original '77 Star Wars--High flying, light hearted sort of fantasy stories that happen to be set in space?

So a local radio station in my town had a summer show about video game music this year and asked me to come into their studio to do an interview seeing as I compose music for video games. We discussed, among many things, what makes video game music special, how composing for video games can be very different from any other media, I talked at length about Sierra adventure games and their soundtracks and the MT-32, and some of the music I've written for games in the past were featured, as well as some upcoming that haven't been released yet such as Mage's Initiation and another secret project. Check it out! Click on the September 9th link (I recommend 128kbps for best q…

Anyone out there with ink? Anyone with Sierra related ink? While I don't presently have any tattoos, I do enjoy seeing what sort of designs others have and hearing the stories behind their ink. I've seen quite a few interesting sci-fi and gaming tattoos, but never anything related to Space Quest or Sierra. So if anyone's got some tattos they're comfortable sharing, or desings they're considering, Sierra related or not, please do so! Natrually anything that's NSFW should carry a warning. And I figure it goes without saying, but this thread probably shouldn't get turned into a discussion about tattoos; I know a lot of people have strong opinions one way or the other, but le…

This is something little I've been tinkering on. I'm aiming at re-creating the whole mansion as well as the the island surrounding in 3D. The 3rd floor and the roof is still missing from the mansion itself, but there's already some place holder stuff outside. This is actually something I've been wanting to do for a good while now. Colonel's Bequest is propably my favourite Roberta Williams game and among my favourite Sierra games in general. Let's hope DropBox let's you stream it. Use WASD and mouse to move. Space jumps. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/25945454/cb_mansion/CB_mansion.html Here's a standalone version for Windows. I recommend using a windowed …

EDIT: the post below is incorrect, as other posters have said, the building in the screenshot is not what was burnt down :D More at http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/223720/Report_Former_Sierra_Network_HQ_destroyed_by_California_wildfire.php Why is that relevant (besides being Sierra's offices)? Because it's these offices:

I'm sure a lot of people are burnt out with Kickstarter Fatigue (actual medical diagnosis), and I apologize if I missed the Grand Ol' Kickstarter Collection Thread™, but I wanted to spread the word about this campaign. It's close to ending, and they're still a long ways from their goal, but it would certainly be nice if they met it. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1867564967/inherit-the-earth-sand-and-shadows

I can see them kicking back at space bars together, and getting along well as long as Roger never uses a blacklight anywhere in Quill's ship ;)

Don't know how many here have heard of the Angry Video Game Nerd (James Rolfe), but he reviews old games, mainly NES and other consoles (and has a movie coming out later this year)... I enjoy a lot of his stuff and I actually prefer his "out of character" stuff where he's just himself and plays games with his friend Mike... they play NES, Atari, and all kinds of old consoles: http://cinemassacre.com/category/jamesandmike/ Anyway, I had never seen them play a point-and-click game before, but I assumed they knew about them and liked them because they like humorous things, and some of the funniest games are point-and-clicks... So in the most recent video they…

So, yeah. Back this because this needs to happen. It's the same group that saved the Enterprise D bridge a while back. They have big plans....plans too awesome to fail. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/newstarship/hollywood-sci-fi-science-fiction-museum

Allistar Brimble's Kickstarter project got me thinking: http://www.kickstart...the-amiga-works Is there any interest for a freshly produced and updated album of music I created for games? If so, would you fund it on Kickstarter? Just in the feeler stage. I've not yet made a choice. Thanks Ken "Your Music Pal" Allen

Okay so today is the day! We're ready to release the game library to the public! The game library is an index of crowd funded adventure and RPG games we've come across since KickstartVentures started. We hope this allows you to either discover something new or get updates on a project you may have backed or known about anyway. The listing of games gives you the option to filter via release status and genre as well as searching for a specific game. Each game includes release platforms, screenshots, release dates, trailers and more. You'll be sure to discover something new looking through our database. So check out the link below and let us know what you think. …

I apologize in advance if I've been living under a rock but I've just noticed an unusual phenomenon. Where I live, we have a large amount of Hispanics in the population. Recently, I've begun noticing that some of them are wearing their pajamas in public. Not sweatpants - Pajamas. Did I miss the memo somewhere? Is this a trend elsewhere? Is there some sort of hidden "statement" in wearing pajamas in public? This looks incredibly dorky. For now, I've just seen them on fat Hispanic women but I have a suspicion that this might extend beyond gender, ethnic & fitness lines. Any intel on this phenomenon is appreciated.

I'm curious how many of you played the Realm, back when it was a Sierra product. I spent far too much time there, and really enjoyed it. It was by far the most social online game I'd played up to that point, and I had high hopes for it. I was disappointed that it never quite became what I had hoped. It faced a lot of tough competition as massively multiplayer online games exploded. I still think there's an opportunity for an online game that is multiplayer, but not massively multiplayer. I don't think the adventure genre lends itself to hordes of people in the same world at the same time, but I think there's sort of a niche for very small groups of people, say …

Does anyone around here remember the wait for KQ8? I remember it being a long but exciting time (but then, I was only 8 when it came out!). I imagine that, before it came out, it probably seemed like a truly epic game...I mean, the screenshots and story elements released made it seem like an awesome, technologically astounding game: The Kingdom of Daventry in full 3-D! A deep plot! New characters! It must've been exciting.... Does anyone else here remember the long (4 year!) wait between KQ7 and KQ8? What did you expect KQ8 to be like before it came out?
