  1. Started by MopJockey,

Let's propose an SQ7 was actually a possibility, do you think an SQ game could work with Roger having say, a droid as a companion? Think along the lines of Cedric in KQ5, but actually useful and able to solve some puzzles Roger himself can't, where you would take control of the droid and gameplay might be a tiny bit different, to shake things up a tad and give a new angle to the perspective, make the player think in different ways and the writing would be a bit different when playing as his companion (IE the narrator would actually kind of like you, or at least, tolerate you a tad more than the narrator does Roger); in characterization, the droid would be a sort of parody…

  2. Started by claudehuggins,

Heyo! For the life of me, I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I've looked on countless walkthroughs and confirmed I'm doing the right things (In theory, anway...) but I can't seem to proceed in the game. My first issue arises in SQ5, on Kiz Urazgubi. I know I'm supposed to climb on top of the cave entrance and crush WD40 with a rock (unless I'm just REALLY misinformed...), but even though I can successfully climb up and the music continues as I would deem normal, she never shows up. Going into the cave reveals that she seems to be hanging out down there and doesn't seem interested in chasing me at all. I'm wondering if I did something wrong? My second i…

  3. I grew up on King's Quest and it was my first introduction to Sierra, to adventure gaming, to fairy tales, and to PC gaming in general, and as such that series will always have a special place in my heart. For the longest time, by which I mean, until only a few months ago, King's Quest was my favorite computer game series of all time, and was quite honestly a big obsession of mine, a passion I at times got quite overzealous about. But recently, more and more, I find myself drawn to Space Quest. I've been a fan of Space Quest since 1997, but it always came at a distant second to my love of KQ. But lately, I've gone on a replay binge of all things Sierra, and I've …

  4. I don't remember being able to get an opened spore as an inventory item in Space Quest II, but I found some text and a graphic for it in the code. Is it possible to get one in-game. I can't find out how? Maybe another left-over, I don't know. What do you think?

  5. Heeey all! Long time no posting. I have been pretty busy these times, and not really active on the forums. I do still check the forum regularly for posts that could possibly catch my attention, but these days, with life, and the current downfall of my second Minecraft Space Quest, I didn't post anything since a long time. I then thought to myself : if I don't see any posts that captive me enough to continue posting on here, why wouldn't I make my own one? So I got this passion recently into game theorizing. I love game theorizing. Thinking about what could possibly be some things that are unused, or left-overs, of the final game. Space Quest was, and still is, quite a…

  6. Hello all! Long time no post. I've recently been working on a personal project that would involve recreating a "room" from SQ2. I would need to get some in game assets to do the recreation. Specifically, art assets (character animations, room background, etc.), words and phrases from the engines player dictionary, and general and room specific narrator dialogue/text. I've looked into using AGI studio, but it appears I would only be able to get the character animations and player words/phrases. Perhaps I'm missing functionality within the program to get the rest? (Room background, narrator dialogue/text) If someone might be able to let me know if that's possible to get u…

  7. Alright, here's one that you guys might find interesting. I've been in e-mail communication for years now with an old friend of mine from the old era of the SQ fandom. He's requested that I not mention him by name, as he prefers to play the role of shadowy lurker in today's SQ community, but like me, he's both an avid SQ fan and a rabid gamer. Recently, both he and I played a little game called Retro City Rampage. The game is basically what Grand Theft Auto would have been if it had been made back in the glory days of the original NES - gorgeous 8-bit graphics, addictive square wave tunes, the whole shebang. B) Perhaps more importantly, the game was made by a li…

  8. Started by anyonehome,

Hey all, Im just revisiting sq series on my macbook, last time I played was many moons ago on an Atari 1040. So Ive read theres a patch for the sound in SQ3 which enables you to hear Roger saying "Where am I" And I cant for the life of me to get it to work. Ive added the new sndblast.drv file which kinda works because its playing an updated version of the music but no "where am I" as he exits the pod (im guessing this is where he said it??) Ive also have the MT32 version working which sounds very nice but no "where am i" Im using the latest mac os with boxer, Ive tried using dosbox but I don't understand how it works at all. If anyone can help out with this it w…

Could it be that the new Sierra'll create new SQ? e1ven (Colin Davis) said in his sq7.org about some 'SQ:I' project. It's SQ1, SQ1 vga or it's new SQ?

  10. Started by jocolloman,

In case anyone doesn't already have a copy of the games, there is a 75% off sale on GOG. You could grab the whole series for $5. http://www.gog.com/game/space_quest_1_2_3 http://www.gog.com/game/space_quest_4_5_6

  11. So over at the SCIProgramming website, troflip (author of SCI Companion) has been working on a enw SCI decompiler which will decompile scripts with 99% accuracy from any SCI game up to SCI1.1. His new feature will be build into a new version of SCI Companion he's currently developing which will allow us to finally create SCI1.1 games. Which is just awesome. He's been decompiling various Sierra game sources at request and SQ3 was one of them. Cloudee, the maintainer and founder of SCIProgramming.com discovered a new (it's not actually new :( ) secret in Space Quest 3 that was not previously known before, to my knowledge. So, just type in "backstage pass" and then type …

  12. Ok, I opened Space Quest IV with SCI studio and this is all the text and messages that are related to the Time Pod : "ENT"? Must be a secret code. Perhaps it means "SELF DESTRUCT" or maybe "CHANGE RETURN"?, That's your head, Roger. Now use it for something., You talk to yourself., Scratching your head doesn't make it work any better. It only loosens unsightly dandruff., It's some sort of monitor. Probably used to monitor something or other., This appears to be the display for the keypad below it., This is a small panel which provides access to the innards of the time pod. IF you have a 3P-223/4QR access panel wrench, that is. , The small access panel is inaccessible.…

  13. Started by Mop Jockey,

Let's say an official SQ7 or SQ continuation was ever released. What do you want to see? Where would you want to see the story go? What do you think the next adventure Stellar mentions at the end of 6 should be like? IMO, one of the biggest missed opportunities/tragedies in gaming is that we didn't get an SQ game in '97. Same art direction as Curse of Monkey Island but Space Quest-ified. With some resolution to the Beatrice-Stellar problem and gags on '90s sci fi.

  15. I am curious about something: Now that there is a new, seemingly more fan friendly Sierra than in years past, do you think the guys that worked on the SQ7 project (the one that involved Josh) would ever consider reigniting and finishing it and trying to obtain a fan license? In my honest opinion, there could never be a true Space Ques game without either Scott, Mark or Josh involved. I truly doubt Sierra would ever ask the Three Guys in any combination to work on a new SQ game, and I don't know if they'd even want to work with the new Sierra even if asked, and even if they did, it might be very different from what the original Sierra might have done...As such, this SQ7 pr…

  16. Greetings, people of the Forum. I'm essentially new to the place, even though I technically registered like two and half years ago. Anyway, I'm creating a Let's Play video series of Space Quest IV (the 1.2 version), but I'm not here just to advertise it because I haven't posted anything yet. Actually, I'm starting this thread as kind of an open-ended question to the SQ community. To set it up, I'll first say that my style is a bit unusual. Instead of whipping through a bunch of games spontaneously, I pick a very select few I particularly enjoy and create fairly comprehensive presentations of everything I know about them, while still maintaining some natural flow a…

  17. I've just finished re-playing Space Quest 6 a couple days ago, I was playing the v1.0 English version, it's been more than 16 years since the last time I played it so it was a real blast to be able to play it once more. But when Roger is in Stellar's stomach, I encountered two bugs of the game (spoiler allert): If I forgot to pull the pill and drop it to Stellar's esophagus before tickling her throat, then there's no way to undo it. Roger will no longer be able to do anything to the pill afterwards, I had to restart playing the game because of this. If I get the gall bladder first before the pancreatic fluid, then Roger will not be able to get the gallstone. Again, …

  18. Want to play SQ3 the way it was intended? I don't think you're gonna get any closer than with this installer from our pal The Collector. http://sierrahelp.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=3925#p51291 This requires you to have the MT-32 patch for Space Quest III and this is not the place to ask for that (Google is your friend). But once you've got the bits and pieces, Collector's installer should make it relatively painless to get SQ3 running with all the goodies -- including Roger's now infamously forgotten "where am I?" voice during the intro, as well as all the digital sound effects that were left out of the original because, eh, SoundBlaster drivers in the…

I had too much time on my hands and made a YouTube video about Space Quest III. If you're incredibly bored, you can watch it. If you've got something better to do though, I totally understand lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Clmwg4Xoe6k

So one of the few complaints about this game that I have seen repeated over and over again is the skimmer arcade sequence on the way to Ulence Flats. I have been thinking about an alternative to this pass or die sequence. Rather than force the user to play this sequence over and over again until they get it, how about if the points are diminished depending on the amount of damage, or the offer for the skimmer upon arriving also changes depending on the damage. So if you get there in pristine condition you get an extra 10 or 20 buckazoids, likewise if you get there after hitting 20 or 30 rocks the offer is far less.

  21. Started by cloudee1,

So in the original Space Quest, there's the Orat puzzle. In various versions of the game, this puzzle had some slight variations. I was wondering what the general consensus was out there about "how it should be" In version 2.2, If you get to the Orat cave before you are being chased by the spider droid then the orat is there waiting for you. If you return with the spider droid in tow but before visiting the lower depths of the planet, the orat is missing. If you show up with the spider droid in tow after visiting the aliens, the orat is there. version 1.0 i think, The orat doesn't ever show up until after you have visited the aliens below, regardless o…

  22. Hey all! Long time no posting! I am still checking the forums regularly, but I was lacking of interesting things to post, until now. I was thinking about Halloween that is coming soon, and when I looked at some decorations, I said to myself : "Hey! Some stuff in Sierra games are scarier than that!". When I was still playing them for the first time, I found some of the scenes or pictures pretty frightening for a pixelized game. Sierra's artists did a pretty good job at that. Jump scares were pretty common in some of the games, and sometimes in the night, I was imagining the death state of Roger, in the state where I left him, haunting me, especially for some games like Spa…

  23. Post pictures of your SQ collections! I recently acquired the CD version and boxed 5.25" disk version of SQ4. I also ordered the 3.5" disks on eBay and will be getting them soon. It's too bad one of them wasn't the 16-colour version then I could have all three versions in one box! Been wanting to get the boxes again for a long time now. SQ4 was my favourite Space Quest so I got that first. I already have the spaceship/screenshot box of SQ1. I thought I had SQ2 but it must have been lost to the ages. Will slowly get them all again eventually. I only have the front flap from the SQ Collector's Edition box. My parents threw the box out when I was younger :(. I also clearly r…

  25. I wonder, what are your favorite Narrator lines of all the Space Quest games? (doesn't count fan games) I know there is come pretty funny lines when you use the Tongue or Nose icon, but I wonder what is the funniest joke that the Narrator said in the games, of your point of view.
