  1. Sorry for the vewwy-first-forum style of poll questions. :D I went back to 2012 or so, and I didn't see a post on this topic... I'm genuinely curious! Note that this isn't necessarily your FAVOURITE game, per se. I probably prefer SQ1-2 and 4, but I always find myself returning to 5... I think probably because it comes out of my favourite era in Sierra history, when they hit the perfect mix of graphical style/technology, audio, interface, genre savviness, etc. I'm definitely a no-voiceover VGA kinda guy. However, contradicting myself immediately, I also find myself really enjoying the SCI0 engine recently. Oddly, if I had to pick a favourite Sierra engine, it wo…

  2. Started by suejak,

Time to settle this question once and for all: Which SQ1 version is the best, and why? Straight-up, I prefer VGA. I love the AGI engine and I love parsers. I even made an AGI game when I was 12: Monkey Man and the Quest to Kick Some Balls, set in the Ulence Flats bar and starring characters both new and familiar to Space Quest fans. Yet I undeniably prefer the VGA remake. It is the one I remember admiring the box art for in the store. It's the one whose 60s film-style trailer sucked me on an old demo disc. It has personality and it looks amazing. The Deltaur is a rad-looking giant mantis that locks on predatorily to the Arcadia. The interior of the Deltaur is beau…

Hey guys! I know I suck at checking this forum on a regular basis, but I am trying to get better at it! Anyways, I was talking to my friend Taylor about this, and then after getting Troels' perspective, he suggested I post here and see what everyone here thought. What would you say is the relative timeframe of the Space Quest games in relation to our timeline/universe? Do you think that the Space Quest games are set in the same time/space as our own timeline? The only intersection we truly have is in Space Quest III, where Roger drops off the Two Guys of Sierra's HQ in 1989, but then again, this after going through a BLACK HOLE, so who knows how that warped sp…

  4. A while ago, I was watching Back to the Future for the first time. Like any of their movies, at the start, you can see the Universal Studios logo. In that movie, I saw an older version of their logo that I never saw before. Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kx7JGbeqOI The first thing I thought was : "Hey! That reminds me of Space Quest 6 Sierra logo!" I'm pretty sure the Two Guys got inspired by the other one : They're both black and white, the're both representing a planet with a flying ship circling around. This is just a supposition though. Do you know anything about this? BlockMaster

  5. Started by Harquimm,

The other day i was watching one of my favorite TV shows, Good Game on the ABC2 (Australia) and was happily supprised when I saw Roger walking around the offices of SQ3 flash on the screen. For those who are interested you can see the footage at http://www.abc.net.au/tv/goodgame/stories/s4079449.htm However be warned he is only visible for a second or two. If you dont want watch the whole think he is @ 0:56

  6. Started by JimmyTwoBucks,

Took some time to put together my top SQ locations, as well as some of my least favorite (and even those are pretty cool really). Where there are similar areas, I've grouped them together (otherwise my list would look different, I'd probably give Monolith Burger its own spot at no. 3, etc. if I separated them all out). I would love to see what other people's favorite SQ locations are! Most Favorite Areas 1. Polysorbate LX in SQ6 Now, SQ6 is not my favorite SQ game, but the beginning location is probably my single favorite place from all the games. It feels the most like a fully realized alien location to me and it makes me think, “what other cities and alien …

  7. Started by Sir Procestuous,

I posted this originally a few years back, but I figured enough time has passed to allow this to once again seem like a 'fresh, new, highly creative' post idea! :D After they successfully escape the dreaded pirates of pestulon, do you think Roger and the two guys ever discuss Roger's past adventures up to that point? I personally think they did, or how else would the games exist for us to play? I read the companion years ago, which claimed that Roger never told the two guys about his past, but through a paradox they somehow learn of his adventures, or something along those lines. I remember never cared for that interpretation, as I always imagined they'd want to kn…

  9. Is there any additional info on what the aborted SQ7 that was being developed by Scott Murphy in 1997 was going to be like? Storyline wise, graphically? Anything?

  10. Started by nathana,

Hey, everybody! Haven't really been able to find an answer to this question anywhere...has anybody cataloged what the different versions are that exist of the different SQ games, and what the differences are between each version? I'm especially interested in SQ1VGA and SQ4. By "versions" I don't just mean "disk vs. talkie-CD" but rather Sierra officially-produced-and-distributed patches for each game. (I know there are fan-made/third-party patches available; I'm not talking about those.) For example, if I browse around eBay and look at the pictures of floppies in boxes being sold, I have only ever run across SQ1VGA disks that say "2.0" on them, and SQ4 disks th…

  11. Started by suejak,

As far as I know, this has been a mystery forever, as the voice went uncredited. This might imply that it was a non-professional or a family friend or something. I can't shake the feeling that the voice sounds eerily similar to the Half-Life scientist voice... Just two different guys hitting the same squeaky-nerd stereotype? Lloyd: http://spacequest.wikia.com/wiki/Lloyd HL Scientists: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvWLceZaXSk If it's the same guy, then I wager the original Lloyd voice actor was either this guy or this other guy. Mr Other Guy, by the way, was Torin in Sierra's 1995 Torin's Passage and worked on many other Sierra titles... He used to live…

I used the game glitch in the hintbook shop. And I got speech+text mode instead of speech mode In the game panel BOTH mode was appear. How? So we can choose BOTH mode somehow? At the beginning of the game? I did ArtMoney method from this glitch and had BOTH mode at the start of the SQ4CD. But now it doesn't work somewhy And I change hex via DosBox... But better do it via EXE or game resources. Set BOTH mode as default For ex, Speech mode is 00. Text is 01. And Both is 02 Maybe BOTH mode is cancelled feature? But why? It works

  13. Hey guys! It's BlockMaster again! I was fooling around in the Space Quest code recently, trying to find some new discoveries, but almost everything out-of-game that I thought that I was the first to find was already found by someone. I then started to copy the Space Quest scripts in text documents to start looking in that for new discoveries. That was a great idea. Because I don't have the first game in EGA, I started looking in Space Quest I VGA, and I found something that isn't in the game in the first script. I found that in the script, inventory items are represented like this : instance Pulseray Laser Pistol of RInvItem { view = $233 ; 563, s2startX…

Hi guys. Recently, I started searching the Space Quest folders, without finding too much special stuff. I wonder if some of you still have the beta versions of some Space Quest games, so I could search that for new hidden secrets. If so, could you send a virus-free copy to download please? Just a question, not an obligation.

Just saw this on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171399920673 I have bought several KQ games with the same sticker. The contents of these "Special Value Pack" seems to have no difference than the standard ones(i.e. not SLASH). Anyone knows more about these releases?

  16. Wow, I don't remember seeing this before: http://www.spacequest.net/archives/sq3/patches/index.shtml Does anyone know who made the fixed SoundBlaster driver for SQ3? I want to credit the crafty genius on the next podcast episode.

  17. Hey, guys. I'm giving this a shot on these hallowed forums before I finally cave and just rip the sound from a Let's Play on YouTube. Because I'm covering the Space Quest III soundtrack on this season of my podcast, I'm very intrigued by the different versions of the soundtrack that exist out there. We all know (I'm guessing) how the AdLib and MT-32 versions sound, because those are readily available for mp3 download from the SpaceQuest.net archives. But I've been watching a Let's Play of the Amiga version of Space Quest III -- and, knowing a bit about tracker music, I find it really interesting how that soundtrack was adapted for the 4 digital channel Amiga har…

  18. Started by ChronoTravis,

I recently got the new Space Quest Collection, and just finished SQ2. I have played and beaten all of them previously except for SQ5, which I look forward to playing. I was wondering what everyone considers to be the most difficult in the series. I think that SQ2 has the most dead ends, but the mall escape sequence in SQ4 is brutal.

  19. Started by SteveHNo96,

I know this is going to be tough, given the fact that most of you guys probably love everything that came down the pipe, but was there one game that really made you go "Eh, kinda anti-climactic"... and it just didn't hold on as much as the others? For me, this is a ridiculously easy choice, and it's sad because it followed what was probably my favorite game of the series. Space Quest V just left me feeling nonplussed. Maybe it was the fact that other than the beginning where Roger cheats on the test, there wasn't anything that was remotely as Roger-esque in it, or maybe it was the fact that later on there was no voice pack, and Gary Owens made SQIV hysterical, but all…

  20. Due to its nature as both a pastiche and parody, I think SQ takes the best elements of all Sci Fi movies, books etc and creates something totally new and original. I find SQ and it's universe fascinating and interesting, on par with the universes in the Star Trek and Star Wars universes. It's clever, cynical, funny and yet not TOO silly. I also think Roger is one of the most relatable Sci Fi protagonists and that the droids in SQ are among the best. What do you guys think?

  21. Started by SteveHNo96,

I'm going to admit something that I'm sure would cause a flurry of "WHAT? Are you kidding me?" I honestly think Roger is too good for Beatrice. I've played SQV, Incinerations and VSB and Beatrice has one thing in common in all of them. She is borderline psychotic in the abuse department. She's almost as bad as Judge Judy (assuming Judge Judy isn't alive in the canon of Space Quest, but you never know -- if only the good die young, she'll outlive all of us). Beatrice is willing to complain about every little thing in the universe that Roger might do. In fact, the only time I've ever heard her really say anything semi-romantic was when you score perfect in Incinerat…

  22. Started by Sir Procestuous,

I'd wanted to share this a while ago, but for whatever reason that I'm sure made sense at the time, I got distracted and forgotten about it until today, when the old nostalgia pangs attacked and I fired up SQ4! Unfortunately, I don't remember the *exact* circumstances for how this very cool and odd "glitch" happened. I believe Roger was about to cross screens as one of the SP successfully opened fire...and when it switched to the next screen surprisingly Roger was still ALIVE, but suffering from some odd side effects! I've uploaded the saves for anyone who wants to see for themselves. I'm using the 1.2 CD Version upgrade by NRS. https://rapidshare.com/files/37…

  24. I'm currently playing Sam and Max, which I never got round to playing as a kid, and it got me thinking about walkthroughs and/or hints... This is when I used hints in the SQ games (in the order I played them): -- SQ4: I don't remember using any hints (no internet back then and the country I was in didn't have hint books!) -- SQ6: I'm pretty sure I used hints on how to kill the terminator guy, I can't remember how I got those hints at the time though -- SQ1VGA: I don't remember using any hints for this -- SQ2: I think I reached for the walkthrough quite early on and I think I used it continuously throughout the game! -- SQ3: I think I needed the hints for the …

  25. Started by JubalBarca,

Okay, so I'm working on a small mod for Rome TW (the 2005 original not Rome 2) that is so far as I know the only sci-fi conversion the game's had done to it. I'd quite like to use the Space Quest theme as menu music, but have no idea a) who has the copyright and more importantly b) whether anyone's going to be likely to enforce it. Does anyone know what the copyright situation is on these things? (Also, I'm going to post more information about the project generally pretty soon, specifically since it's pretty massively densely packed with Space Quest references, but I'm officially announcing the whole thing tomorrow so more to come then!)
