  1. Started by Mop Jockey,

What are your feelings on SQ6? While the game is a bit messy due to its turbulent creation, I think SQ6 is the funniest game in the series, and it has the best atmosphere. I love The characterization of Roger, and the very cynical, jaded grungy sort of atmosphere the game has. Probably borne out of how unhappy a place Sierra was to work at in 1995, it still made for an excellent atmosphere. The narration, descriptions really knock it out of the park, and the art style is pretty amazing IMO. The locations again have that cool grimy, grungy feel to them. Again, Rogers characterization is IMO spot on. I do think the game would've been much better if Beatrice was Stel…

  2. "Many of my childhood memories are virtual. I spent my days exploring the kingdom of Daventry, playing Astro Chicken at Monolith Burger and trying not to buy any “fine leather jackets.” Once a year I would upwrap something special from Sierra and then spend my weekends at Incredible Connection (I didn’t even have dial-up back then) studying gaming forums and HTML walkthroughs, trying to figure out how to finally get rid of Sludge Vohaul, free Cassima from the clutches of Mordack and ultimately unite my VGA families with their happy endings. 3. For those who follow the Two Guys more closely and often than I do..... What is their general feeling on the idea of seeking the rights to SQ after SpaceVenture, whether to license them or buy them outright if SpaceVenture is a success? I mean, they were able to raise above 500k for a new project, I bet if they launched a KickStarter to build up funds to get the rights to SQ they could once again easily surpass 500k, and I can't imagine the rights to SQ being worth much higher than that anyway (not a knock on the series, just my take on the series estimated value given it was a 80s/90s adventure game series and wasn't Sierras biggest seller even at that time).....…

  4. In 2008, after Activision and Vivendi merged, Sierra was put under intense scrutiny by Activision to have their products do better, and several months later, Sierra's development studios were shut down, and not long after, Sierra was absorbed into Activision, with Activision hoping to sell it. Is there any hope that at some point in te future, the Sierra brand will either be revived, or sold off? Now that Activision is independent from Vivendi I wonder if they'll ever bring Sierra back.....

  5. Hi, I thought maybe you would like this. (Thanks to the moderators who already posted this on the Twitter feed.) I did a defense of Flappy Bird video. What's interesting to you is that I snuck in Astro Chicken into one of the sections. The section is a historical stroll through games past looking for similar games. While most of the references are 80's arcades, I love Sierra games and had to include this in the history to keep the memory alive, particularly in a generation that doesn't remember both Sierra games or 80's arcades. Anyway, I hope you guys find it interesting and worth sharing. It's not often we see it referred to in more mainstream co…

  6. Started by Decaffeinated Jedi,

The other day, I was thinking about the Space Quest series and trying to identify a segment from one of the games that embodies what I think of as Space Quest at its very best. Is there a particular sequence from the series that encapsulates everything we love about Roger Wilco's adventures? The best that I came up with (and I realize this kind of thing is completely subjective) is the junk freighter sequence that opens Space Quest 3. I can't think of another segment from the series where the art, puzzle design, writing, and even the music all come together so effectively. It also incorporates some interesting/innovative mechanics for a SCI0 game; the recolored sprite…

  7. I wonder, what is the funniest thing that ever happened while you played Space Quest. The thing that really made you laugh the most. For me, it's in Space Quest I, when I played for the first time and my father was helping me to play when we were trying to escape the Arcada. We didn't saved, sadly, and it tooked an hour to finally get in the escape pod. I almost escaped right away, but my father remind me to buckle up. After that, when I launched the pod, we saw a scene that showed the Arcada from far away, and then, we saw a a ship shaped imprint in the bay doors. I wasn't understanding at all, until I saw the death message : Guess those doors are stronger than they look…

  8. Started by secondhanddog,

Yahtzee (of Zero Punctuation fame) does a pretty funny let's play of SQ3 with commentary about old adventure games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyGSNL18SIc Edit: They are rather critical. Also worth checking out the Game Grumps play through of SQ4.

  9. Started by Akril,

Working on the latest SQH podcast prompted me to make some major changes to my Sierra's Resource Files site. I've taken a closer look at some of the games' text in SCI Viewer, and I'm starting to get a much better sense of where and when some of the things I've found were supposed to appear in their respective games. I've discovered several things which I didn't add to the pages for one reason or another, nearly all of it from SQ4 and SQ6. With this influx of new material, I've had to do a lot of shuffling around. The SQ series are now on a page of their own rather than the Miscellaneous page, and I ended up adding so much stuff from SQ6 that I had to create a separate p…

  10. Started by Sledgy,

Guys, how do you see to the Kickstarter project or some fond (by Two Guys, for ex) to collect money to buy SQ rights? For creating SQ7 by Two Guys For ex. 10,000$. If we'll put some money every month (all fans from the world) (see - in the SV Kick - amount of backers!!!) Better with using WebMoney. And Scott show final sum in the Two Guys site (like in the Kickstarter) Maybe it's prj for 3-5 years, but then we got some bucks to Activision and can win the rights

  11. Started by Sato,

I'm looking to get into this series, but I'm looking for a few ways of getting all the games in their various forms. I know that the first game was remade, and the remake is the one used on most stores and physical releases. I'm also aware that the original is available on GoG, along with SQ2 and 3. However, I'm wondering if there are any physical releases that contain the original version of the game? I prefer having physical stuff, and I'd like to play through both at some point anyway. Thanks in advance! And sorry if there's somewhere more appropriate to put this, but it seemed fine here :P

  12. Started by BlockMaster,

Hey guys! Since I'm a Space Quest fan, I always look for more secrets in the game code. One of the things that I thought that I could do is listening to Space Quest 4 CD RESOURCE.AUD. The only bad thing is that I don't know how to convert it to mp3 files. I tried to do so with Audacity and something went wrong. It's now an mp3, that's not the problem. I suggest that you listen to my mp3 to hear it yourselves. Skip to the middle of the track. WARNING : Can trigger lols. So that's that. It's funny, but I wanted to listen to Gary Owens, not a chipmunk. Can anyone tell me how to convert RESOURCE.AUD to mp3 properly? BlockMaster

  13. Finally, I think that I found something never seen before in the Space Quest folders! Look at this : http://www.flickr.com/photos/106016985@N05/sets/72157637093575225/

  14. I know quite much about Space Quest IV, but I don't think Roger ever swims. I found sprites of him swimming in the files. Strange, isn't it? Look at my attached file to see it yourselves. View398-0-0.bmp

(made by Sledgy) Without patching I use Dosbox 0.74 and ArtMoney SE 7.21 Table with bug (first line in Russian - 'Глюк') 1. Launch DosBox (probably, 0.74) 2. ArtMoney (I got SE 7.21), open the table; choose the process 'DosBox' 3. Change line "Глюк" to 224234 and freeze it (by right mouse click menu) 4. Run the game. At the start it'll be in the Speech+Text mode Don't use RESTART, only RESTORE; 'cause the freeze table line'll change (I dunno why) => This 'speech+text' thing won't work Also you can exit and launch your game again. Table'll work --- You can create trainer or edit exe. This table works for…

  16. I know that in Space Quest 6, there is like 4 objects that are not used. I thought about a way to see them in-game, and I thought that it could be possible to find my saved games directory, find all the data that is associated to Roger, find the inventory data, add the missing objects data, and VOILA! The only problem is that I'm not a good programmer at all. I don't know where are my saved games, neither how to edit them. Could someone help me please?

  17. Started by Sledgy,

First update http://www.spacequest.net/archives/sq4/patches/ There'snt speech! In the Both and Speech modes

  18. I found these lines in the source code of Space Quest III : "Looks like this bird's in good shape.", "So, how do you like the game so far? Was it worth $59.95?" "Hey, we're hungry. We haven't eaten anything but jello for the last few weeks." "I hafta go to the bathroom." "Can't you make this crate go any faster?" "Just between you and me, I think ol' Wilco's been in space too long." What does that means? There is no bird in Space Quest III, and they mention the game's price. I wonder if you know something about this.

  19. As the title says. No program I have ever found for this had an option to search for a word.

  20. Look at this! I don't know what you use it for, but when I look at it, it says : "keycard".

  21. Hi guys! I wanted to ask you for your help... I'm still pursuing my quest of owning every single Sierra/Lucasarts game in their Big Box versions... Could anyone tell me which insert should every Space Quest version have? And how many versions are there, rarity, etc... Thank you so much! Nelson Miguel

I don't know why Infamous Adventures remade SQ2, but I love this remake. I hope they can do the same thing with SQ3, although I doubt they will since the forums are offline.

  23. Started by Spikey,

Hey folks, I ripped all of the SQ6 movie files, and converted them to AVI, if anyone wants them let me know. Regards, - Spike

  24. Have you ever seen this before? This is an unused background hidden in the folder of, belive it or not, King's Quest VII! Nobody knows what this was supposed to be used for, but it's still an interesting fact. Maybe it was a plan for an easter egg in King's Quest, like a portal that leads you to Space Quest. Who knows? Anyway, just something I found that I thought I would share. Please, reply and tell me what are your thoughts about this.

  25. Started by SteveHNo96,

Sometimes there are things that are running jokes, like that you're never supposed to know what state the Simpsons live in (It's Oregon, by the way) or that you never see Wilson's face, but this one has me scratching my head. Why in the hell does the game only use 1-buckazoid coins? This is most noticeable in Space Quest IV when you buy the adapter for your laptop. There's a comment in there about putting in every single one of the 1999 buckazoids you need. Doesn't it seem just ever so slightly inconvenient to have everything in currency of single buckazoids? Shouldn't there be higher value coins, like a 50-buckazoid note or a 100-buckazoid note? It would cert…
